the emmeline apron

emmeline apron front tie
EDIT: Pattern is now available here!

I've been bursting at the seams to show you this new pattern design, which will be available in January! After weeks of muslin mayhem in my crafting corner, I've finally come up with this little lovely: completely reversible, ties in the front or back, and flattering for all body types. I hope you all love Miss Emmeline as much as I do!

emmeline apron 008

I'm so glad I have to wear aprons every day to work. I'm gathering quite a little collection, and I'm sure I'll be making many more 2-in-1 Emmelines to spruce up my schoolmarm-ishness. If you can't wait to have your own cute apron or if you are looking to purchase one for a gift, I highly suggest that you be-bop over to Jamie Christina's Etsy shop and take a look at her gorgeous aprons!

This post was my one valiant effort for the day - I'm home sick with a really crummy cough. Really, now. How many times can one person be sick in the span of three months? I'm going to submit myself for the Guinness Book of World Records. I'm off to rest with a cup of hot something rather. As soon as I'm feeling better, I will be doing the pattern layouts for both the Gnome Messenger Bag and the Emmeline Apron (the instructions are already written!) Then I'll be looking for some pattern testers. ***Thank you for your interest - I've found my pattern testers for the Emmeline Apron!***

xo,
Meg

I love this apron - I want to make one for my sister (especially after I saw the wonderful aprons at Jamie Christina's etsy shop) so I'll be on the lookout for your pattern! The messenger bag is too cute too (and I have some gnome fabric).

Need a tester...I will be ready to sign up. Otherwise, I will be looking forward to finding it in your shop.

That is so gorgeous! And I'm not on the whole apron bandwagon that all the other crafters are on.

But, I love that. And I will buy the pattern. And I will make it. As God is my witness. :)

I'm seriously going to start shopping for fabric for it now.

May I just say that I have been coming back to your first apron post over and over again, coveting, wondering if my novice sewing skills could replicate such a beauty. And to know there is a pattern coming soon? I am a little chagrined at the depth of my excitement. Love love love it!

What darling patterns - both! I have some gnome fabric and have been stumped - until now:) I'd be happy to test anything:) Hope you are feeling better - but good to get the "crummies" out of the way before the holidays!

Mozilla said...

Ahhh, I hope you come out with the pattern sooner or that I can be a test knitter because I have been looking for an empire waist apron pattern to make for my friend as a xmas gift since since she is ample in the middle. This would be perfect!

BrookeLaine Design Studio said...

She's a beaute, that Miss Emmeline. You must be proud as a peacock! How could you even stand yourself as you were dreaming her up?

I wish the pattern was going to be out by Xmas, as my little sis is a newlywed, and is turning out to be quite the little cook/entertainer. I didn't know she had it in her! Maybe I'll give her an IOU, or give her a 'just because' gift in the New Year!

Such a cute apron! I would definitely buy that - I've been looking for 'the one' and that has to be it!

You're right about it suiting most body types too - it would even look good on petite bosomy girls like me who can be swamped by fabric and look frumpy in a lot of aprons.

Yay! I look forward to buying a pattern when it's available.

Dallas said...

I'm looking forward to your gnome bag pattern - if you need another tester, I'd be happy to. :)

Sarah said...

I hope you feel better soon. I am so completely and utterly in love with this apron!!! I'd very willingly test it out. If not test it out then I shall wait (perhaps impatiently :-) ) for the pattern to be in print in January. I've been on an apron kick for a while now. Just finished one last night.

I am so glad that you are making a pattern for this apron. I just loved it when I first saw it on your blog. Can't wait until January!

Knit,Sew,Craft,repeat said...

Oh, I'm SO glad your making a pattern to sell! I've been thinking of asking if you might do so. I've been searching for just the right apron to make and just fell in love with the first one you made. I'm terrible at making up patterns too. Thanks for doing this. I can't wait to order!

sunmoonstar said...

super cute. It looks like a little dress, I love it. Your fabric selection is beautiful.

I've been waiting ... and I mean WAITING for an apron that doesn't scream my mother, but doesn't look like the waiter down the street, actually adds a bit of feminine to it too ... love that it's reversible and that there's an actual halter top feel to it. You found that balance ... now I cross my fingers that my sister will sew it for me ... I'm a NOVICE for sure. :-) love it !

dedicateddourly said...

Lovely. Can you tell us where you got that beautiful blue/brown fabric?

Meg McElwee said...

The blue fabric is from Anna Maria Horner's Chocolate Lollipop line - here's an ebay seller who has it:

The green paisley is Heather Bailey's Freshcut.

Thanks for all of the glowing reviews! I'm so glad that you're excited about the pattern!

Laura said...

Too sweet! How did you come up with the name? My 3yo daughter's name is Emeline - very uncommon!

Amber said...

I loved this design the moment I saw it in your earlier post! It is oh so flattering! I can't wait to receive the pattern... Patience is not a virtue of mine...

Lisa said...

Hey Meg........would it be possible to have a version that covered part of the heiny!! I'm a butt wiper!!! That is...I wipe my hands on my backside quite a bit. My aprons have to go all the way around. Maybe a scoop that rounds to to the tie in the back on both sides??

Linda said...

If you don't have enough pattern testers, I'd love to volunteer. My 12 year old niece is aspiring to be a pastry chef and I'd love to make this for her.

Di said...

It's a beautiful apron! I love it -in fact I would love it to have a back so I could make a dress!
Hope you are better soon!

I love the apron and will definately be making one when you are done with the pattern!!!

I love it how you just throw in there at the end that you'll be looking for pattern testers, very sly!
I would love to test the pattern. I love to sew and have been sewing since I was about 6yrs.
I have tested a knitting pattern before so I know about testing and what to look for with issues and such, I'd love to help!!
BEAUtiful aprons by the way!!

Your apron is absolutely beautiful. I have one that my brother got for me from New York that has a similar fit and I love it. I would also like to put in my name for pattern tester. Monday I quit my job so I could stay at home and explore some other options, this opportunity would be great! Kris cowgirlupkw@hotmail.com

I can't wait! Good luck geting it all finished and posted. You are going to have a long line of buyers, I think. That is marevelous. I am so happy that you were able to look at something else and come up with a pattern of your own. I have had the same ideas myself with another apron. It is fun to be able to put it all together.

Stella said...

January, you say? That is THE most adorable apron I have ever had the pleasure to see. Normally I see something I like, and then go try to make my own pattern. No point, this time. I couldn't match the perfection, and it'll be ready soon anyway!
